I Hear America Singing

I think this story truly shows what being an American is like. It shows that America is full of varieties and opportunities. In the story, there were Masons, shoemaker, carpenters, woodcutters, boatmen, and many more. All of them were also singing while doing their job. This story also shows that you can do whatever you want, as long as you set your mind to it, since there are so many different things you can be. The singing also represents that everyone is content with their job. It shows that every American has the opportunity to do the job they actually enjoy doing. I think this story really described what being an American is. There are many different varieties in America ( races, religion, jobs, languages, etc.) There are also many opportunities in America, as long as you work hard toward your goals.

  1. I totally agree with what you said about the different varieties of things that contribute to the "singing of the jobbers" I too think that the poem was really aiming at saying that people should be happy with the diversity in America and to be proud that they are here.

  2. I also agree with what you have said. America is a very unique country that we are fortunate to be in. Many contries and regions are still aiming to be like America.

Your last sentence made me think about the way we should be glad about taking the opputunities we have and grasp everything we are able to get.

  3. Yah I agree because America is made up of a group of very diverse people. To be an American,to me, means to be free and happy (or at least have the chance to be) and this poem says that
