Short Story

Charlie was walking down the street when he suddenly heard a huge explosion, and many little ones after it. He knew exactly what happened, and pure instinct had taken control of him from that moment on. He ran down 2 blocks toward where his house was and stopped to take a breather. He thought to himself that this was no time to stop, because they were coming. With one last breath, he jetted down the street, running so fast, he thought he could’ve broken the world record.
Halfway down the block, Charlie turned around to see 3 black cars about to turn the corner. He immediately turned left and into an unfamiliar alley. All he thought about was to run straight ahead, and nothing else. He felt a big shadow sneaking swiftly behind him. It was one of the three black cars that had been chasing him. As the shadow of the car came close, Charlie started to observe his surroundings. He saw a fence that was about 6 feet high straight ahead of him. Knowing that he can jump over the fence with ease, he readied himself for the moment.
As Charlie approached closer to the fence, he had a sudden flashback of a time where he failed an attempt to jump over a fence. He was 12 years old back then, and didn’t really have many friends. He was one of those kids people don’t even bother noticing. He was chased down an alley, similar to the one he was running down at the moment, by 3 bullies. All 3 of them were bulk, and much older than Charlie was. They covered the sun’s rays and created a huge, enveloping shadow in front of them as they walked. Charlie remembered, as he tried to hop a similar fence, 3 years ago, his foot got caught by one of the fence wires which gave the 3 bullies the opportunity to catch up to him and beat him for an unknown reason.
As Charlie’s flashback comes to an end, he comes to a point where he is only 5 feet away from the fence. As he tries to get hold of the fence, his flashback hits him again, and makes him hesitate. His hesitation knocked him off his balance and he bounced off from the fence. The car was merely 10 feet away from him and was speeding at 50 mph. At that moment, his mind went blank with darkness. His thoughts were dull and unclear. He didn’t think about dying, but instead, he regretted how he didn’t live his life the way he wanted to. TO BE CONTINUED….
